What makes us human? is a small project I worked on the past week. It is a visual, collaborative exploration of the things that make us human. The presence of artificial intelligence, as challenging as it has been, has also brought up to the surface many of the ways in which we humans are different from AI, the things that can't be faked, because in faking them they lose their human-ness — their soul, if you will.
So I wanted to explore these things, and I started a list, but I quickly realized that I alone can't list everything that makes us people. So I created this project where other people can add to.
And in this post, I want to share a little about the process of creating it.
I knew from the beginning that this project would be done through creative coding. So I started in P5js. I'm very much a beginner to coding, it had been some time since I last did, and this project had to involve using a third party tool, so I had a rough start. I won't bore you with the details.
The very first iteration:

When everything worked, before starting to style it:

Once I figured the code out, it was time to style it better. I tried many many color combinations. Coding was still harder but this came close. Why is picking colors so difficult? I love them all!
This is how the Framer canvas looked when choosing colors:

I finally decided (well, I'm still doubting it) for a dark blue background and light blue bubbles/clouds, and then I styled the rest of the elements in the web page and added the title in my handwriting.

(I drew the flowers while listening to an unrelated video, it helps me focus, anyone else?)
And this was the final result!
